Sweet & Salty Snack Mix: The Perfect Recipe for a Hot Day

When you’ve spent a long day on the toughest, dirtiest jobs outside, it’s easy to work up an appetite. It’s also pretty hard to bring along the high protein and complex carbs you need to keep your energy up if you don’t have refrigeration. Check out my family’s favorite recipe for Sweet & Salty Snack Mix. All you need to do is combine several ingredients in a food storage container!

Sweet & Salty Snack Mix

Ingredients

Equal parts of the following:

  • Sesame sticks
  • Everything sesame sticks
  • Honey roasted peanuts
  • Everything roasted chickpeas
  • Roasted salted almonds
  • Butter toffee peanuts
  • Wasabi peas
  • Chocolate covered almonds

And a double part of:

  • Mini pretzels

We don’t provide measurements for this recipe because it’s really up to you! If I make a family-size batch, I use one cup of all ingredients (and two cups of pretzels). It makes about 2 ½ quarts, and I store it in an 11-cup food storage container. It can store for 2 weeks – if it lasts that long!

This recipe is also easy to modify based on your individual tastes. If you want it with more kick, add more wasabi peas. If you like it on the sweet side, throw in more honey roasted peanuts, butter toffee peanuts, and chocolate covered almonds .

The directions are easy: simply dump everything together in a large food storage container, snap on the lid, and mix well by shaking gently.

The surprising sweet and salty nature of this trail mix will have you reaching for handful after handful (wasabi peas with chocolate covered almonds? TRUST US! It’s amazing!), and it’s also a good snack to keep with you on a hot day since it requires no refrigeration (but you might want to leave out the chocolate covered almonds).
